On Friday, April 21, 2023, I was fortunate to join former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and a crowd of more than 100 people as we celebrated a new solar rooftop project at AltaSea, the marine science lab at the Port of Los Angeles.
The 180,000-foot panels cover four acres of rooftop on the old port warehouses that are now home to an ambitious 35-acre research hub, the largest such center in the nation dedicated to creating and powering ocean-based jobs in the emerging blue economy – an industry projected to produce more than 126,000 jobs and $37.7 billion in wages in LA County alone.
The AltaSea campus will also power 700 local homes.
